After a late night out at the club, I slept in until 1 on our first free morning in a while. After a quick breakfast, I tried to go biking with David, Ben, and Mel. The city’s bikeshare was having a promotion because of the gas shortages and protests around the city, so a bike for the day was only 10 cents. We walked a couple of blocks to the nearest rack with enough bikes, but when we got there we couldn’t get the app to let us check out a bike. After 15 minutes of struggling to enter our payment information, we gave up. We were disappointed, and had planned to bike around, get some food, and enjoy the afternoon.

Instead, we headed with most of the other students to Liberdade, a neighborhood of the city that’s also known as little Japan. Sao Paulo has over a million people of Japanese descent, making it second to only Tokyo for number of inhabitants. On Sundays, the neighborhood has a craft and food market. We wandered around the stalls, checking out the stuff for sale. Eager to try some of the delicious smelling food, me and 3 others wandered up and down stalls, getting things and then splitting them. We got fried seafood balls with both shrimp and octopus, a fat fat dumpling for less than $3, and a red bean pancake/donut type thing. We explored some of the other shops in the area, wandering into a giant 4-story mall that had all sorts of anime, video game, and other nerdy paraphenalia.

Getting tired, I headed home and napped for a little, then headed to the other hostel for a final relaxing night. We had cheese, crackers, veggies, and wine as we relaxed and prepared to fly out the next day.
