Tuesday, May 14

Today was a pretty chilled day. We had another round of Portuguese lessons in the morning, then went to an indoor market for lunch. They had fresh produce, spices, as well as a number of butchers and prepared food. I always try to buy tea from places that I visit, so I searched some of the spice shops for some. All I could find was some very coarsely ground green tea (that still had twigs in it) and lavender. I think I'm going to combine them to make my own tea. I might pick out the twigs first. Then I got 'simples' which was some sort of rice, beans and meat that one of the vendors was selling. It was very good.

It's like a squash and anaconda had a baby

Couldn't be bothered to stop eating for the photo.

In the afternoon, we had an intro to thermodynamics which was only slightly worse than getting a root canal. At night, I tried to chef up my own creation for some people in the hostel. I bought 'jerked beef' that was in cubes, and tried to make beef with mango over rice. For some reason, the beef is ungodly salty and the food turned out pretty terrible. I was very disappointed and I am going to stick to something I know a little better next time.

In the club going up on a Tuesday...

After dinner, we had a little party on the rooftop, where we introduced our tour guide, Renato, to the wonderful game of king's cup. Then we dipped to a jazz club for some live music and dancing.
